Part joke, part learning exercise, www.howlongisapeaceofstring.com seeks to answer that common, supposedly unanswerable question: how long is a piece of string?
Initially the site was a very simple game that would work out the average length of a piece of string, given all user-inputted values to date. Then a friend hacked the system and spammed the database, so the site now spits out insults if you visit from certain IP addresses. As various people have tried to hack the game, it has become smarter, while still retaining it’s simple, charming concept.
The dream for the site is to one day make it big on the internet, but in the meantime it’s a fun practise in both PHP and Google’s Materialize CSS.
